A tongue-in-cheek 'rewriting' of the hymn 'Jesus, I my Cross have taken'
Jesus, I my course have taken
Not at all to follow thee.
Destitute, despised, forsaken –
I do not intend to be.
Satisfy my fond ambition,
All I've wanted make my own.
That will be a blest condition!
Make this world my comfy home.
Let the scrupulous forsake me,
And the conscientious too.
Worldly people rather please me.
I embrace them, and gladly too.
And if they should smile upon me,
God will surely understand –
If I shun them, they might hate me.
They're the key to all I've planned.
